Moriya Town, Ibaraki, 1996-1997
The project "PROJECT ROOM" is the project for a project that Yamaide constructed a studio to plan future projects. This project, which is planned in the vacant lot where a elementary school used to be, is carried out not only by himself but also through communication with many people. So this space functions as a mental open space for creation.
I make some tables of several eye-levels and for different purposes in this town. (One table for one purpose.) I consider some projects which will be carried out on these tables. I attach casters to these tables to be mobile. I transfer planned projects with tables after this period and carry out these projects in different time and different places.
The table for "VIDEO PARTY" functioned as a workshop for editing Yamaide's pervious projects. The video edited on this table was shown at "VIDEO PARTY" held at Matsugaoka elementary school, Moriya high school, a central public hall, and so on. (All of them are in Moriya town.) I chose one video (project) to show which had important relation to the regional residents. I announced this party at the central public hall to all the townspeople (about 40,000 people) on the publicity paper of Moriya town.
I distributed "questionnaires for establishment of PROJECT ROOM" to the participant of the "VIDEO PARTY".
"VIDEO PARTY" at the central public hall consisted of two parts. The first part was a "video-lecture" by Yamaide and the second part was a "talk-and-discussion" by townspeople as a get-together. They talked in order to make this -Artist in residence- program "ARCAS" in Moriya town much more creative and to find a good way to use this program.
